Lao Tzu was a Chinese philosopher/poet who is thought to have lived in the 6th century BCE.  Lao Tzu is the author of the Tao Te Ching and is credited with founding the philosophy of Taoism.  Little is known about the actual person, Lao Tzu, and many historians believe he is the amalgam of several different individuals.

June Monthly Wellwork

 

Happy June!
This month’s wellwork assignment is about gratitude.
With the growing interest in the Law of Attraction and Positive Psychology over the past several years there is a lot of focus on having “an attitude of gratitude”.
 Having an “attitude of gratitude” means focusing on all of the things you are grateful for throughout your day and life.  And not just people and possessions but thoughts, feelings and experiences as well.  Thinking about what we are grateful for and feeling grateful raises our vibrational energy (btw –  the energetic vibration of gratitude and love are the same ~548MHz).  This higher vibration increases feelings of happiness and allows us to attract more things to be grateful for and that  make us happy.  Simply put, it changes our perspective from one of negativity and lack to an attitude of possibility and abundance.
There are many ways to express your gratitude to the Universe, one of the most common is to keep a gratitude journal.  Keeping a gratitude journal is quick, easy and can be quite fun.  You simply write down the things you are grateful for on a daily basis as big or a small as you like and FEEL the feeling of gratitude for each item as you make the list.  It can look something like this:
I am grateful I woke up this morning.
I am grateful for this cup of coffee.
I am grateful I work with so many supportive and creative people.
I am grateful for my computer.
I am grateful for my spouse/children/friends/dog.
I am grateful I have the eyes to read this awesome blog.  
You get the idea.  This is a great way to put you on the vibration to attracting some amazing things into your life.
But, like most things once we develop the habit we tend to do it by rote:
 -Gratitude journal- check mark – done for the day
So this month I want you to do something a little different.  Each day choose 3 or 4 things you are grateful for write them down AND write a few lines about WHY you are grateful for them.  For example,
I am grateful for my car.  
She is extremely reliable and fuel efficient.  
I can always count on her to be there when I need her.  
She is fun to drive and she is always ready to go on an adventure with me.
Spend some time on this and really feel all of the emotion that goes with the what and why of your gratitude.  The FEELING is a big part of the “attitude of gratitude”.  After all the feeling is the attitude.  So don’t forget to revel in the feeling.
Try to pick different things throughout the month rather than just listing the same 3-4 items every day to keep your mind focused on the many things for which you have to be grateful.  It is okay to repeat things just not every day.
So, have fun and enjoy this activity.  It really can change your life.

Banish the Monday Blahhhhs…

It’s Sunday, and you know what that means…

Monday is almost upon us.

Monday the day of the week most of us dread, the signal to the start of the work week, the day everything goes wrong. The object of disdain commonly associated with the phase, “Ugh, It’s Monday.”

But what if it did not have to be that way? What if Monday could be as good a day as Wednesday or even Friday!!!!

Here’s a tip guaranteed to turn a dreary manic Monday into an amazing happy day.

Tomorrow get up 10 minutes early (I know this isn’t sounding like such a great tip so far, but trust me you’ll be glad you did), grab a piece of paper and a writing utensil and write down 10 things for which you are grateful. Now, don’t just scribble something down and head off for that morning cup of coffee (ha..ha..caught you). Instead, take a moment to think about why you are grateful for each thing. You might even write down a word or brief statement about what it is that makes you grateful.

For example, my list looks something like this:

I am grateful:

  1. I woke up this morning
  2. For my dog – he makes me smile
  3. For my car – reliable and fuel efficient
  4. For my home – safe and comfortable

And so on…

Research in positive psychology shows that expressing gratitude increases feelings of happiness and well-being. Listing what you are grateful for just 1 day each week has been shown to increase these positive emotions. And unlike many things in life, the more you express gratitude the happier you feel. Now, doesn’t that sound like a great way to start the week?

Give a little, get a lot!

Today is Arizona Gives Day here in AZ.
It is a day each year in April dedicated to encouraging people to give to a local non-profit charity.

I love this day! I donate to various local charities throughout the year, but there is something about donating on this particular day that makes me feel 10x better than any other day.

This year funds are pretty tight and I considered forgoing my usual donation in favor of paying rent.

Then I remembered that one of the key tips to manifesting more money is to not be afraid to give some away. This shows the Universe that you already feel abundant and prosperous and are ready to receive more of the same. It puts your mind in a positive plane for accepting wealth and abundance.

Plus, one of my life goals is to be a philanthropist. As a child when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I always said, ” A Rockefeller or a Carnegie”. Their contributions to charity and the arts entranced me.

Now that goal seems pretty far off considering my current finances. Or is it?
According to Mirriam-Webster the definition of philanthropy is, “the practice of giving money and time to help make life better for other people.”

That’s it! That is all I have to do to be a philanthropist? There’s no dollar amount or time requirement?

Whoopee! Goal attained!

So today with one donation I achieved a major life goal and attracted more money into my life. How great is that!

The biggest thing to remember is it’s the act of giving that attracts more abundance not how much you give. Revel in the joy of helping others and you will be rewarded many times over.

So whether you are in Arizona or somewhere else in the world, donate to your favorite organization today. You’ll be glad you did.
